About Me and Amen

I'm Jon El-Bizri. I've been building software professionally for over 15 years, mostly interfaces for complicated systems: the controls for AI-enabled industrial cameras in factories at Overview.ai, DNA editing and design tools at Autodesk, and the architecture that let Arc.io's network grow from 400,000 to 80 million users in 9 months.

Before that I worked as a sound designer and musician. I'm in the credits for Id Software's "Final Doom", and my music and effects have been used by Microsoft, Amazon, eBay and San Francisco's Academy of Art.

In 2005 I found a Reaktor patch called Vectory. I took it apart, got it playing my own samples, added a lot more features, and it became the centerpiece of my studio. In twenty years, nothing has replaced it.

When Long Covid made it impossible for me to hold a job, I started building the instrument I'd always wanted that patch to be. The timestretch is clean instead of crunchy, you can drag and drop your samples in to play them, and there are a host of other tweaks and features. It's its own instrument now - a sampler designed for playing back loops and beats, rather working with samples.

This was supposed to come out a year ago, but Long Covid had other plans. Then again, if I hadn't gotten sick, I would never have 'gotten around' to creating my dream music app. So, don't be like me: follow your dreams, while you can. And also, it's never too late :)
